Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Then, in 1992 she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, including fiscal reform, the budget as well as the Iran Contra saga. Mitchell traveled frequently along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
